Description: This could be considered my coming out of the "unbeliever's closet" video ( no I'm not gay--I'm an unbeliever; aka a non-Christian, so don't leave me any dumb comments asking if I'm gay. :P ) I think it's time my family and friends finally know what I truly believe. I used to be a Christian. Now I am not. To my friends and family who might be watching: Think what you will about my beliefs. They are what I believe; what more can I say? And I think it's better for me to just be honest and say so even though I know it will pain you to hear it. Music playing the background is: Eternal, by Evanescence. |

| BobUnderhill ::: Favorites Unfortunately, it seems to be more of an intellectual consent to the possibility that He might love gays. Actual practice of Christ's love seems to be elusive. 07-10-08 10:13:58 __________________________________________________ | |
| TheMathGuy ::: Favorites To be fair, BobUnderhill's interpretation is more consistent with the beliefs of your average modern-day Christian. Part of the difficulty with the scripture is that it is consistent with several different interpretations, which is to be expected from a book with dozens of different authors. There are plenty of reasonable Christians out there. I should know--I WAS one for many years. 07-10-05 18:59:39 __________________________________________________ | |
| BobUnderhill ::: Favorites Wrong. He does love gays. It's the act of sodomy and homosexuality in general that He hates. Get your facts straight. Maybe actually read the book you mentioned... 07-10-04 14:26:06 __________________________________________________ | |
| BobUnderhill ::: Favorites But what if he's powerful enough to maintain absolute control over his creation, and yet allow them free will? What if the human brain is simply not powerful enough to explain the paradox? 07-10-04 14:22:15 __________________________________________________ | |
| BobUnderhill ::: Favorites That would be one hell of an argument. Proving a universal negative! Wow. I'm amazed. 07-10-03 14:55:02 __________________________________________________ | |
| BobUnderhill ::: Favorites You're just another Renaissance. Another Enlightenment. You will disappear and come again, and so will Christianity. Persecution births more resilience. The resilience lives on. Is that not the doctrine of natural selection? 07-10-03 12:16:53 __________________________________________________ | |
| BobUnderhill ::: Favorites Nineteen Eighty-Four is still a distinct possibility as far as manipulation goes. At least having a God gives me reason to rebel against an 'enlightened' government and similarly inclined men. Remember China? What the 'enlightened' atheistic Mao did to that country? Remember the 'enlightened' Bolsheviks? 07-10-03 12:15:52 __________________________________________________ | |
| BobUnderhill ::: Favorites But, then, Bush did lead a crowd of fools into Iraq. Humans are the same as they were ten thousand years ago. The human condition is exactly the same. The human psyche is exactly the same. We aren't learning anything. I'll swear the Athenians were debating the same thing in 500 B.C., though they'd have difficulty doing so in public. 07-10-03 12:15:12 __________________________________________________ | |
| InfiniteMushroom ::: Favorites I was assuming your observations were confined to Atlanta by reason of your GT shirt. The corruption of churches can include falling away from their own founding doctrines, adopting a made-for-TV atmosphere, or using the power of religion to justify their particular pet bigotries. Again, you may reject them without fear. A good church should teach one how to live and die with a clean conscience. A good church cultivates the art of civility among the members and with society at large. 07-09-25 18:00:55 __________________________________________________ | |
| patcowan70 ::: Favorites hi themathGuy, first of all great video, I love your honesty. That being said I am a christian and the word "eternity" bothered me too."Eternity" is a debatable term and is translated all sorts af ways; age, age of ages, forever, world. Greek is a hard language but I believe in a Hell but an unbeliever doesn't spend eternity there, beyond that I don't know much I'm still in the research phase. 07-09-24 13:35:22 __________________________________________________ | |
