Description:

From the early '90s, this is VERY rough proof-of-concept footage from when Paramount contracted Digital Stream to insert computer-generated effects into the original Star Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine". Nothing ever came of the project.

Why does this, for the most part, look better than the updated CGI that Paramount did for this episode. In fact, the New Voyages CGI work often looks better than the Paramount stuff. More dynamic. Paramount needs to rethink their efforts on TOS.

For early '90's these effects were pretty good....but still need updating for this century.

Great clip, like how you cut to the meaty scenes and it all still made sense, missed the part when Jim goes bonkers on the insane captain about his ship and fighting that fish looking thing. Fav part, Capt Kirk keepin kool under pressure..."Gentlemen, I suggest you beam me aboard".

Out of all of the remastered episodes, this was the one I loved the most. The detail on the Connie was perfect. I still think they should have gotten Eden FX to do the work instead of CBS Digital; they did such a good job on "Enterprise."

I prefer the remastered version that was done recently by the studio. I didn't care for the planet killer design in this one. It actually looked less menacing than the original & the new CGI planet killer in the Paramount version is fantastic. I also didn't care for the flames coming out of the impulse engines. On the plus side, the wrecked Constellation looks pretty impressive & the new opening was interesting, although that's probably not something I would change.
