Description: Lots of torque + Lots of weight = Lots of smoke! 1986 Chevrolet Caprice Estate Station Wagon Engine = 305 V8/4BBL (135HP / 325FT-LBS , trailer tow option) Transmission = 700R4 , Axle = 3.23:1 (trailer tow option) All factory, none rebuilt after 500,000 KM. Wearing faded 21 year old paint and woodgrain, and filthy with rustproofing material, she's no beauty contest winner, but reliability continues to be amazing! Stereo audio recording. |

| peter355camaro ::: Favorites there were NO 305 small block with 325 ft lbs torque! the strongest 305 made by chevy was the tuned port injection with 215 hp and 280 ft lbs torque. and there where used in camaros and firebirds.. 07-07-22 14:05:02 __________________________________________________ | |

| ivanack ::: Favorites You are correct on the ratio. On the plus side, it tachs about 1500 at 60 in OD and delivers consistent 22mpg. Thanks for the input. 07-02-25 08:31:52 __________________________________________________ | |
| LakeNipissing ::: Favorites Maybe your wagon has 2.56 differential gear ratio instead of 3.23 (trailer tow axle ratio). This really makes a huge difference for torque. Also, 1st gear in 700R4 transmission is around 3.3 to 1, this makes close to 10:1 reduction from the engine to the wheels in first gear. With enough weight in the back of this 86 Caprice (for the tires to hook up), it can almost lift the front wheels off the ground when the gas pedal is punched. 07-02-25 00:00:51 __________________________________________________ | |
| ivanack ::: Favorites My H-engine 84 wagon couldn't do that when it was new ! It's got almost 400k on it (still on the original engine/never torn down), and it's an even bigger slug. 07-02-20 19:32:35 __________________________________________________ | |
| ssj3steve ::: Favorites If I remember there was an 215hp 305ci 5.0 liter as well offered in 1985. 07-01-08 21:58:01 __________________________________________________ | |
| biggsteve97 ::: Favorites Too bad they didnt offer that 305 here in the states, that wouldve been sweet.. 06-12-13 20:44:32 __________________________________________________ | |
| LakeNipissing ::: Favorites 1985 and 1986 power ratings for 305 and 307: Standard 305, 4BBL (8.6:1 C.R.) . . . 155 HP @ 3800 RPM, 250 FT LBS @ 2400 RPM Trailer Tow 305, 4BBL (9.5:1 C.R.) . . . 135 HP @ 4800 RPM, 325 FT LBS @ 3200 RPM (I believe this has different cam, valves, and heads than standard 305, maybe stronger crank and bearings as well) Oldsmobile 307, 4BBL (8.0:1 C.R.) . . . 145 HP @ 3800 RPM, 250 FT LBS @ 2400 RPM 06-11-15 23:38:21 __________________________________________________ | |
| LakeNipissing ::: Favorites Bassnsx, here is some more info... Totally stock, including single exhaust system. According to owners manual, both 305 and 307 were offered in Caprice in Canada for 1986, my car has VIN code H as 8th character (305), Emissions decal code YAD (trailer tow) = no ECM (odd for 1986), no AIR pump, no O2, TPS or knock sensors, mechanical Quadrajet, etc. Just proven, simple stuff that works forever. 06-11-15 23:22:27 __________________________________________________ | |
