The highest note is a C. The E at the end is an optional note. Since it is covered in the orchestra. But if you can get the E more power to you.

as far as I'm concerned, it's the C that is the optional note..no sense in doing the piece if you are going to cheat and play the C

wrong..i looked in my score it is an E-natural...and there are 2 in the last section as well as the one at the end of the first section

Of course he's playing a descant.... I played this with my quartet- and although I played third part,I know the first part is extremely high- even for high-horn players. It'll wear your chops out really fast. A descant is the best (and most logical) way to go playing first part.

candys...: If you're addressing my comment, I have stated that I believe he is using a shorter horn. HOWEVER, that's not to say that the highest parts cannot be played well on a traditional F/Bb double horn. I know of those who have done so, including myself. Indeed, the original players did not have the advantage of the modern double deskant horn.
