Description:
X-15 launch landed & rolled. S-3 Viking cold cat shot. F-80 gear up landing; note how rescues crews are on way before the plane stops. Military flight safety training protocol on declaring an in flight emergency. " If in doubt, call them out." Cockpit view of midair. Airline fuel flammability test crash. F-16 pilot hits tree at ridgeline, practicing terrain masking. T-37 Tweet lands with nose gear up. Good subject; poor video quality. Most of the films were shot using old-fashioned equipment, sometimes over exposed and washed out, under great vibration. The film and tapes were not that good quality when I got them and over the decades age and EM has deteriorated them some, and some quality was lost digitizing the recordings. This real thing, not Hollyweird. Most of the montage footage I posted is available, that has been better stored and has been enhanced and edited using high-end professional equipment and a lot of time. They have done an excellent job in restoring much of the footage The footage is in different order and has different music, however it has much of the same footage. There is a digital preview available at the link. I am not affiliated with the web site. http://rareaviation.com/store/catalog/product_3353_Breathtaking_Military_Crash_Videos_cat_1032.html |

| c9ari ::: Favorites Man how many Navy pilots go over the bow into the drink every year? 07-07-29 21:25:27 _____________________________________________________ | |
| jeffgodden ::: Favorites The crash from 1:59 to 2:26 was done on purpose...I forget why. It was a test crash..unmanned of course hence all the cams. Hardly a mishap. 07-05-02 22:24:21 _____________________________________________________ | |
| ATFSCrash ::: Favorites Correct, thanks. I think it was a fuel flammability test for a new fuel that was supposed to be less flammable. It was remote control and they were slightly off course, they landed slightly premature and to the side. There were jagged posts that were designed to rip into the fuel tanks, unfortunately it's as the plane was off course it ripped it in such a way that it made the fire worse. 07-05-02 23:08:58 _____________________________________________________ | |
| jeffgodden ::: Favorites That sounds about right to me. 07-05-03 10:54:24 _____________________________________________________ | |
| demecco ::: Favorites This was a test in which the wings were supposed to detach from the plane. The idea behind was to avoid case of critical landings. The test has totally failed. 07-06-27 07:23:10 _____________________________________________________ | |
| ecarfar ::: Favorites I witnessed the S-3 cold cat shot. It was on the USS Independence in late 1983 or early 1984. It was the first successful ejection of all four crewmembers. 07-02-26 12:25:33 _____________________________________________________ | |
| ATFSCrash ::: Favorites Thanks for your comment of your account and additional details. 07-02-27 23:35:55 _____________________________________________________ | |
| rkt33 ::: Favorites Good stuff. I've found that aviators, to a man, enjoy crash and burn flicks more than just about anything. Maybe because it's somebody else. I wonder if this holds true for other professions, i.e. surgeons watching a botched operation. By the way the "A-6 Intruder bolter" is actually an S-3 Viking cold cat shot (note the angle of the windscreen, the shape of the tail, the speed and the fact that the hook is up). Thanks for your efforts. 07-02-20 11:30:21 _____________________________________________________ | |
| ATFSCrash ::: Favorites Thanks again, for your corrections rkt33. I do not know why I called that a bolter. I had to do a triple take to realize you are correct about it being an S-3. I thought the engines were drop tanks, and I am not that familiar with Navy aircraft. Thanks to you I corrected the comments to be more accurate. 07-02-20 15:16:22 _____________________________________________________ | |
